Method of extraction: Steam Distillation
Chemical constituents: Essential oil includes the following chemical compounds; a-pinene, camphene, b-pinene, linalool, cis-anethole, trans-anethole, safrole, anisaldehyde and acetoanisole.
Properties: Potent Oil, use with caution.
Aniseed has been used to treat menstrual cramps.
The main use of anise in European herbal medicine was for its carminative effect, as noted by John Gerard in his "Great Herball," an early encyclopedia of herbal medicine.
The essential oil has reportedly been used as an insecticide against head-lice and mites.
Blends well with: Aniseed oil goes particularly well with other essential oils such as cardamom, caraway, cedarwood, coriander, dill, fennel, mandarin, petitgrain and rosewood.
Precautions: Best avoided during pregnancy.
