Sambucus nigra (Elderflowers) have been used traditionally, alongside the Elderberries, as a treatment for flu symptoms; Elderflower benefits, however, are by no means limited to this purpose.

The flowers are brewed to an infusion that is purported to reduce any inflammatory condition in the body. 0.5 - 1 teaspoon of dried flowers left to steep in 250ml of boiling water for 10-15 minutes can be drunk up to three times a day.

The flower is also useful at soothing hay fever symptoms due to its anti inflammatory action on the sinuses.

When used in combination with senna, fennel and anise elderflower may also improve the symptoms of constipation.
