Baldwins Tragacanth Gum Powder
Baldwins Tragacanth Gum Powder
This widely versatile gum powder is derived from Middle Eastern legumes (Astragalus) whose sap is drained from the root and dried before use. Viscous and odourless, Tragacanth Gum Powder can be added to water to form a gel; however it is best recognised for its users as a stiffener in textiles.
Also used in herbal remedies for coughs and diarrhoea, when transformed into a paste this gum powder can be applied to burns to help sooth inflammation and encourage healing.
In addition, Tragacanth has earned a strong reputation for acting as an emulsifier, thickener and stabiliser in foods and pharmaceuticals (it is often used to make paste for sugarcraft), as well as acting as a binder for making paints.
