Travel Advice FAQ
Q. I often have to fly to Europe and the US for business reasons. Jet-lag is a real problem for me and I arrive feeling tired and unwell.
A. Jet-lag can be extremely debilitating, all the more so if you have to step off of the plane and go straight into a business meeting where you are expected to be at your best. Try the Australian Bush Combination Drops, stocked by Baldwins, which are renowned for having a positive effect on tired and disoriented travellers. They will refresh and restore balance and should be used throughout your flight to help you feel at your best when you arrive.
Q. When I travel by air I tend to break out in spots and blemishes. Can you recommend anything that would help prevent this?
A. This is one of the unfortunate side effects of air travel, often put down to being enclosed in a small space with a lack of fresh air and continual air conditioning. Try Aubrey Organics Travel A Go-Go!, which is particularly suitable for problem or blemish-prone complexions. The kit is made of 100% natural ingredients and consists of a facial cleanser, which contains calming witch hazel; a facial astringent with organic camomile and calendula flowers; a balancing moisturiser with aloe vera and balm mint, plus a sea clay face mask that you can use when you arrive at your destination as a ‘pick me up’ for your skin. All are packaged carefully and in small bottles than won’t give you a problem at check-in security!
Q. My daughter suffers terribly from travel sickness. I wonder if there are any herbal remedies that would help.
A. One of the most effective known remedies for sickness is ginger. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries and many women use it to alleviate morning sickness during pregnancy. Baldwins sell ginger in many forms, but try the ginger capsules from Bio-Health, made with a pure powdered form of the ginger root. The capsules are especially useful for helping prevent travel sickness whether caused by flying, car travel or sailing.
Q. I’m going to the Far East and I’m worried about malaria. Can you give me any advice?
A. The best advice is to go straight to your GP or practice nurse and tell them where you are going, how long you will be there, what sort of conditions you will be living in (for example, in a 4 star hotel or back-packing) and get their advice. They will tell you what you need to take to protect yourself from malaria. It is a dangerous and severe illness and you MUST make sure you take anti-malarial drugs. It will be necessary to take them for a time before you travel and after your return, but your doctor or nurse will advise you. It’s also important to do your utmost to stop being bitten in the first place. Citronella, eucalyptus or lavender are all effective at keeping insects away. Never apply essential oils directly on to the skin without diluting them first and remember, these are not a substitute for anti-malarial drugs.
Baldwins helpline staff will be pleased to help you choose products that are right for you. Contact them on 020 7703 5550.
